Each state park has its own set of trails that are usually well maintained and marked. Some of these trails also lead to the Appalachian Trail.

For example, the Dockery Lake Trail is about 3.5 miles and is a moderate to strenuous hike up to Miller’s Gap on the Appalachian Trail. If you go south on the Appalachian Trail for about 3 or 4 miles from Miller’s Gap you will come out at Woody Gap on Highway 60. A favorite hike is from Neel’s Gap to Woody Gap. It is about 10 miles of moderate to strenuous hiking through the Blood Mountain Wilderness area.
